Another thing that gets me excited about doing a recipe like this is that I’m making something that was just pixels and now it’s “flesh and blood,” so to speak. Here is the recipe.
Ingredients
- Box of macaroni and cheese of your choice. I try to buy organic, but sometimes that’s a bust because they sometimes taste like cardboard. I use the Target brand, Simply Organic.
- Unsalted butter
- Milk
- 2 heaping tablespoons of pesto
- Cayenne pepper to taste – if you’re not a fan of spice, I would substitute paprika.
- Pinch of salt
Preparation and Cooking
- Cook the macaroni until it’s al dente (not soft, firm)
- Pour the powdered cheese into a bowl.
- Add the milk and butter to the bowl with the powdered cheese according to the directions on the box.
- Mix the powdered cheese, milk, and butter together until it’s fairly well mixed. You’re not going to get it perfect but if you at least get it partially mixed, it will taste better.
- When the macaroni is done, drain the water with a strainer and dump the macaroni in with the powdered cheese/milk/butter mixture.
- Mix thoroughly, making sure it’s coated all over.
- Add the pesto, mix well.
- Top with cayenne pepper.
